January 1, 2007
To
My Friends, Colleagues and Fans,
It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to The Resonators, their fans and
favorite venues. Jim, Brand and I have been performing together since the turn of the
new century
and nearly every minute has been intensely enjoyable. It has been my pleasure to
perform music in the fashion of the Jug Bands of the turn of the last century -
blues, folk, ragtime, jazz, old-timey, gypsy, country and even pop - with the
same down-home style of those classic string bands.
With the band's success during the
past year (...over 40 scheduled shows plus many impromptu performances) it has become
increasingly difficult to balance the music schedule with family, career and other
obligations. It was my understanding with the guys at the beginning that when our
performances became "work" it was time for me to call it quits - sadly, that
time has now come. We're still good friends, we may get
together from time to time to play, and though I will continue to play music on
my own or with others, I will no
longer be performing with The Resonators beginning in January, 2007. The band
intends to continue on and I sincerely wish them all the success in the
world.
I want to take this opportunity to thank some very important folks.
First and foremost, thanks to my family for being understanding and supportive
in all my musical endeavors. Also
a very special thanks to Bob and Jim Ward and family who have provided a home at
Ward's Berry Farm for jug band music. I also want to recognize "C.A.P.E.'s" Dave
Jackson and Camille Breeze; Karen Dusek and
Frank Albani from the Soule Homestead; Anita Davies and John and Emily
Ferreira of the Joe Davies Foundation; Mike Landers
and Lloyd Rosenberg of Project Arts of Plymouth; Anna Eder-Mulhane and Mike
Delaney from Java Joes in Milton and Jamaica Plain respectively; the sponsors
and organizers of Foxboro's Founders Day and the Dighton Cow Chip Festival; Mike
Webber and Paul Beck from Foxboro Cable Access; and all of the great folks who thought of us for their
private parties. Thanks for sharing your talents - to the various musicians who I have had the honor to perform with throughout the years
with the band (including, Vic Wotherspoon, Alan Gianatassio, Doug Chambers, Dave Corcoran,
Jeff Chanonhouse, Tiffany Rozenas, Ted Mello, Dave MacPherson, Bill and Amy
Lyons, Art Tebbetts, Matt Putnam, Russ Mello and others); and, of course, the loyal and
ever increasing cadre of "Resonating" fans. Finally I would like to take this opportunity to
thank Brand, Jim and Harry for the good times, creative spirit, fine music and hard work
that has gone into creating The Resonators.
So, from Dick Webb to you...
...Thanks
for everything!
